Hypnobirthing changed my life! … and that’s no exaggeration.
At the start of my first pregnancy I was totally freaked out and not sure how I would ever get my baby out of my body, without feeling like I was going to die! (yes, I know very dramatic)
Towards the end of my pregnancy I was actually looking forward to my labour …
And … labour itself was the most transformative, empowering and beautiful experience of my life.
It was a pain-free, water-birth, hypnobirth.
Many friends thought I had gone crazy when I told them how awesome the birth was.
I told them it didn’t hurt and one friend thought it must have been some sort of fluke, she said … “well, your baby wasn’t that big”.
But my baby wasn’t exactly small either, weighing in at around 3.5 kg (7.7 pounds) – which was the national average for girls in 2008.
Two years later I did it all again and birthed an almost 4 kg bouncing baby boy.
This labour was fairly calm and easy too – much quicker, and more intense, but still awesome 🙂
That’s when people started taking me seriously and asking me HOW I got through labour so happily without the need for any drugs or pain-relief.
Excited to spread the word and help other mums enjoy their labour too, I enrolled in a course to become a hypnobirthing teacher.
First I trained with the HypnoBirthing Institute (US), then GentleBirth which was developed in Ireland and now I’m about to start my certification with Hypnobirthing Australia.
All three programs are based on a mixture of ancient philosophies, science and modern techniques to assist the mother and baby to work together for a more comfortable, safe and empowering birth.
When I arrived at the hospital to birth my baby girl more than 6 years ago, it was very unusual to see a mother using hypnobirthing techniques, but now I’m proud to see hypnobirthing is becoming quite common in maternity wards across the world.
I have also been lucky enough to teach couples in several different countries including Australia, US, Canada and the UK via Skype.
Hypnobirthing totally rocks and has changed my life … and I know it can change yours too.
